Do you recall two summers ago when Cardi B threw her microphone at a fan who poured alcohol all over her? Apparently, the woman she struck does. She recently sued the rapper on a number of counts, including assault and battery. This is the replay.
Following the incident on July 29, 2023, the claimed victim says she experienced "physical pain, emotional distress, reputational damage, embarrassment, and harassment from both the media and members of the public."
In addition, she is suing Drai's Beachclub, the nightclub on the Las Vegas Strip where it took place, for negligence. It "had a duty to supervise the performance and ensure the safety of its patrons, including Plaintiff," according to the complaint.
The case, filed Monday in Clark County District Court, did not specify damages.
“What has been written off as a joke by many people is actually a traumatic experience that has significantly impacted my well-being and quality of life,” the victim said in a Wednesday statement. “I am seeking justice in the hopes of holding Cardi B accountable for her misdeeds, as no celebrity is above the law.”
After a police report was filed, Las Vegas police looked into the event for a while but decided there wasn't enough evidence to bring charges.
Throw Business
The lawsuit claims that the victim was only following Cardi B's instructions when she threw some of her drink at her. The rapper, who appeared overheated onstage, repeatedly splashed water over her body and urged the audience to follow suit.
She "turned, struck a pose, and physically reacted to splashes by slapping her posterior while audience-thrown liquids made contact with her," according to the lawsuit, at one point.
However, a microphone was "suddenly and forcefully" thrown at the victim as she did it.
After then, the microphone sold for $99,000 on eBay.
Cardi B is recognized at the DMV as Belcalis Marlenis Almanzar Cephus, even though the woman who brought the lawsuit used the pseudonym Jane Doe.
